Professor Peter Hines
Enterprise Excellence Network
Title: Quality, Innovation and Sustainability: Mindset or Tools
Description: Conferences on Quality, Innovation and Sustainability are often dominated by research on new or existing tools and techniques. This advances our knowledge on how to improve but does not provide answers on how we create a culture for these approaches to succeed in the short and long term. Knowledge at the start of any programme of tools and techniques is essential, but Professor Hines will argue that more important is creating a culture for enduring success. The importance of this has been recognised by scholars, for instance, with a transition from Lean from a technical subject to a socio-technical one, Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 and Sustainability moving to include societal impacts as well as environmental ones.
However, do we need to go further? In this session, Professor Hines will argue we do. Based on recent research into excellence he will show that it is the impact of the mindsets of people, teams and whole organisations that is the most important thing. Be prepared to challenge your assumptions.
ICQIS 2026 will be hosted by the Faculty of Business at SETU on the 10th, 11th and 12th June
